Retrieve space with a combi heating boiler
If you are about to put in a new boiler you should look at a combi boiler if you have a shortage of space. It is possible to put in a full central heating and hot water system by purchasing only a gas powered combi gas boiler with a balanced flue. If your plumber adds in some radiators and the appropriate copper pipes you have absolutely everything to warm your home. You could be stunned by this and ask whether we had left out some component parts. Isn’t it true that most systems seem to need a feed and enlargement cylinder in the loft, a water pump to transfer the hot water around and a storage cylinder to keep hot water when not called for.
It may shock you to learn that a combination boiler does not require these component parts. With a combination you can dispense with the hot water storage cylinder, there is no call for for an attic based feed and enlargement tank, and the other tiny pieces are already built into the gas boiler. So you can see with a combination boiler you can save a substantial amount of room within your house.
Combi gas boilers are not a new gas boiler design. They have a longer history in the Continent but have now become the most common gas boiler in the United Kingdom. There are two main divergences between this form of heating boiler and its better known options. A fully sealed system contains the circulating hot water for the central heating. This means that there is no demand for a feed and expansion cylinder in the loft. The hot water storage tank can also be dispensed with as the gas boiler will have its own hot water storage vessel.
As hot water is called for it is produced immediately by the gas boiler, the boiler is aware of this when you switch on a hot water tap. The hot water is produced by the use of a highly cost-effective internal heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is heated by channeling circulating hot water from the central heating system. On the other side of the heat exchanger cold mains water is heated before completing its journey to the hot water valve.
Hot water supply to the radiators is a lesser priority than the output of immediate hot water for the dwelling house. The radiators are supplied with hot water once the valve is shut.
If you do have a space issue in your household you should give great consideration to putting in a combi gas boiler when you next replace your boiler.
