Neglect central heating boiler maintenance policies at your own peril

These days there exist insurance plans which can cover a very wide range of events ranging from pet health through standard problems such as mobile cover. Insurance takes on more importance for some items like motor vehicles and even machinery, where it is required by law. Lenders will also require borrowers to take out house insurance if they have a mortgage to cover the cost of replacement and rebuilding. Such insurance holders can prevent the wrecking of their finances that can result from unforeseen financial circumstances.

The next step down would be things like heating system insurance, which can be found with companies such as British Gas and Hometeam (npower). These policies are not being used as widely as they should be, but householders often feel that the are more important things with higher repair costs to cover than the gas central heating system, these opinions change when there is an unexpected heating problem with a high repair cost. On top of the cost, you may have to wait some time to have a professional come to your house to fix any problems and living without hot water or central heating can be a nightmare. If there is a problem or if your system has not been properly serviced there are chances of producing potentially dangerous carbon monoxide, due to a fault in the central heating system.

There are a range of plans on the market. Generally service plans start with contracts which includes safety checks and annual servicing fulfilling the householders minimum requirements. Spare parts and repair work are not included so you carry the risks of a breakdown. For as long as the heating boiler is under warranty, the manufacturer pays for spare parts and repairs; but it is advisable to upgrade a basic plan to full cover with a little additional payment. This is a wise move, specially as the gas boiler’s warranty period and working life draw to a close. You can extend your policy to cover other things too, besides the central heating system like radiators and other parts of the central heating system or even plumbing, drains and home electrics cover.

One thing to watch out for when choosing a policy is any exemptions or limitations written into the insurance policy document. Some insurers place an upper limit on the amount of repair calls made per year or define a ceiling level for the cost of maintenance for a specific period. As with all types of insurance, don’t just choose the cheapest premium without making sure the level of cover is adequate.
